In the wake of Breece’s death, I expected things to go just a bit differently. Thankfully, I was wrong about Ledda blaming Wade, but he does indeed blame himself. Normally, I would say that’s a bad thing, but the new and improved Wade uses that guilt to propel himself into taking action that he should have been more willing to take several episodes back.

This episode has to be among the best of the season thus far, I’d easily rank it in my top three favorites. Spoilers abound in this recap, with another main character death. Proceed at your own peril.

While this particular episode doesn’t push much in the way of character development, it does give us a bit more perspective into the motivations of various characters. Events both past and present have an affect on people, and the writers do a fine job of showing that not everyone can just take things with a grain of salt and move on. So, here’s your suicide trigger warning–there’s a couple of attempts made, but nothing successful, thankfully. (more…)

Why The Walking Dead Still Has Me Hooked

I just spent the last 90 minutes watching The Walking Dead‘s Season 6 finale. To say that I am shocked would be a complete understatement. We’ve spent the entirety of the second half of this season awaiting the arrival of the notorious Negan, with hints of who this man is and why we should fear him and fear for our most beloved characters should they come face to face with him. A cliffhanger was not unexpected, but the acting in this episode? Some of the best, most realistic, and visceral I have ever seen from a television show.

As I suspected, the death of the bren’in last week set off a ripple of events, and things in town really begin to heat up. For a fan, it’s episodes like this that truly make a show worth watching despite the slow parts.

As of this exact moment, I’m almost sure the majority of the population knows something major happened on The Walking Dead Sunday night. To say that my mind is blown would be an understatement. But it needs to be emphasized that the worst fears of the fans may not be realized. What you see on the first viewing tends to be inaccurate, as our minds like to use our worst fears against us and make us see things differently than when we go back and rewatch certain events. Recall when Glenn fell off the dumpster? This is just like that, optical illusions caused by shock.

This episode of Outsiders takes on the aftermath of the ill-fated trip to the gun shop. It affects everyone a little differently, but will surely have long-term repercussions.

If there are any lessons to be taken from the world of The Walking Dead, it’s these: Never get comfortable. Never let your guard down. Never trust the quiet times. There is always a calm before the storm. This week’s episode is no exception. Life in Alexandria seems to settle into a pattern after Maggie and Carol’s ordeal with their alter egos, and this episode very much reads like a filler episode, but don’t let the quiet parts fool you.
