What do you say when a film doesn’t have any redeeming qualities at all? Ugh.

I remember that most of us enjoyed the action flicks from the ‘80s and ‘90s, even though they were cheesy, because they usually included someone we loved to see on the screen. Actors like Jeff Speakman, Brandon Lee, and Michael Dudikoff made those films tolerable, if not actually better.

Now action films are being released starring wrestlers, MMA guys, or just some beefy dude looking for a break. Misfire includes Gary Daniels, someone whose face you might recognize from some old VHS covers, but he never made it back then and he’s still trying to this day. Sadly, no one has broken the news to Gary that it probably won’t happen. Nothing against Gary Daniels, but he isn’t a leading man and can’t carry a film. I did dig his little moment in The Expendables and I’ve enjoyed some of his films, but purely on a goofy level.

Misfire isn’t a good movie. It’s just one of those “tough guy” action films with hardly any action and a meathead plot that has to deal with military or ex-military and a daughter that is kidnapped. In a way I’m glad Gary Daniels still has a career but I’m not glad that I have to see it happen. It’s also hard to believe there is a market for this type of thing. Do people really go out and buy these films? Do they see them listed on Netflix or Amazon decide it sparks their interest? I don’t know, but these films are a dime a dozen these days and I need to learn to stay away from them.

I usually try to be constructive in some shape or form but with this film there isn’t much I can say or do to make that happen. There are plenty of great films out there and you would be advised to watch one of those instead.

Misfire was released on October 21 by Image Entertainment.
