DVD Review: Blood Soaked

There are quite a few films that don’t get much attention these days. Between big-budget blockbusters and higher budget indies, these B-movies just get shoved to the side. There are a few companies sweeping these films up and giving them the time of day and Wild Eye Releasing is one of them.

Wild Eye Releasing are the mad geniuses who picked up a small film called Blood Soaked. I’ll start off by saying that Blood Soaked isn’t a great film and most people will probably tear it to pieces because it is cheap, but that doesn’t make it bad. The world has a certain outlook on the movie industry; if you have made a film you obviously have millions of dollars and eat caviar with a bottle of Cristal every night. Well, world, that isn’t the case. Most of these filmmakers work day jobs and they do enough just to get by. If they are lucky they might make a few bucks and can do this full time, but then they have to do something again very soon that is profitable or they have to go back to their other jobs. Sadly, this is how it is for most people whether you are an actor, writer, director, or even a producer.

Like I said, Blood Soaked isn’t a bad film and for the most part it’s well made, but it obviously suffers from a lack of budget. The ideas in this film are entertaining for the most part, but I look at these films as a test for the men and women behind the camera, anyway.

Peter Grendle is the guy who is responsible for this bloody flick and I will give him props. With a minimal budget and with no name actors, he managed to keep my interest and showed huge promise for whatever feat he takes on next.

When I first heard the plot for this film, I really didn’t know what to think. Two lesbian lovers are being hunted by two Nazi sisters who are breeding zombies. Yeah, that’s the plot and I’ve got to tell you it actually works and is and silly as it sounds. Grendle manages to pull off a interesting and brutal story in a classy way and turns the tables on what you actually think is going happen with films like this. I say that simply because DTV films that are this cheap are kind of throwaway films. I know that sounds mean, but are overlooked. Blood Soaked is a film that will probably go unheard of but I encourage you to watch it and see what this filmmaker has accomplished.

I’m excited to see exactly what this director does next and what direction he takes. I just hope that next time he has a bigger budget.
