DVD Review: Found
Published on October 17th, 2014 in: Current Faves, DVD, DVD/Blu-Ray Reviews, Horror, Movie Reviews, Movies, Reviews |A couple of years ago my friend Jay handed me a disc with one word on it: Found. He said he saw it at a horror convention and it was something I would love. I watched Found that night and he was right.
Weirdly, Found was something that no one else was talking about at that time. It wasn’t until a year or so ago that I saw discs that looked like they were made by the filmmakers circulating on eBay and Facebook groups. I was stoked that other people knew about Found but sad that it wasn’t getting the real attention and distribution it deserved.
Now Found has been brought to the world. I’ve never seen a film get so much love before it’s actually released. I haven’t heard any shit talk about Found because everything about it is near perfect. I’m so excited to see what this director brings us next. He has to follow up with something special because the horror and gore hounds are expecting something big.
Found is not only a great horror film but also a great coming of age story about a young boy completely obsessed with horror films who finds out his older brother is a serial killer. Yeah, that shit had me hooked right there. Found starts off quickly with insanity and has all the horror elements, but it focuses solely on the relationship between these two brothers. There aren’t too many horror films that take this route but Found isn’t afraid to do so.
The acting in this film from the two leads is incredible. Hell, it would have been entertaining enough if the film had just focused on the brothers, and didn’t include the serial killer aspect. The special effects in this film are wonderfully realistic and strongly executed. It’s refreshing to see special effects like this in small films because you can tell the filmmakers genuinely care about how they look.
If you are in the mood for a fucked up horror story with great character dynamics you won’t find a better film than Found right now. It punches you right in the gut and leaves you suffering on the floor even after it is over. It is ultra brutal and not for someone with a weak stomach. It’s probably one of the most disturbing horror films you will ever see but it doesn’t go for shock value for the sake of it. There is a reason behind everything and it may take some effort on your part to figure it out, but it hits hard. Some of the imagery will embed itself into your mind and never leave.
Whenever people tell me they’ve seen this film, I ask all kinds of questions, but the one I ask the most is “What did you think of that final shot?” So, after you see it, I want you to answer that question.
Found was released with the help of The October People on September 23.
