Blu-Ray Review: In The Blood
Published on June 6th, 2014 in: Blu-Ray, DVD/Blu-Ray Reviews, Feminism, Movie Reviews, Movies, Reviews |I have and will always be biased when Gina Carano plays the lead or has a major role in a movie. She’s always been a favorite of mine and I get super giddy whenever I watch anything she is in. When I heard about her new film In The Blood I was freaking pumped.
First off, if you don’t know who Gina Carano is I highly suggest checking out the film Haywire so you can see what this woman can do. Long story short, she kicks major ass. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to see a beautiful lady kicking the shit out of people?
In The Blood is a film about a recently married couple, Ava and Derek, who are on vacation in a different country. One night while they are out, they’re approached by a young man who says they should go with him and he’ll show them a good time. They play along and get into some small-time trouble at a nightclub, but soon flee before the cops show up. The next morning they go zip lining with the same kid but an accident leaves Derek severely injured. An ambulance shows up at the scene and takes him away to the nearest hospital. When Ava arrives at the hospital they have no record of him being admitted or even being there and this is when the ass kicking begins.
Now, this story sounds intriguing but it fails to maintain the presence of reality and goes every clichéd route possible. In The Blood does hold your interest but it’s also bland. We’ve seen this kind of thing before, except for the ending . . . I won’t talk about the ending, but holy crap, I was surprised they went there.
Anyway, In The Blood has some decent fight scenes and Gina Carano is in fine form. She carries this film on her shoulders the entire time with no help from anyone because it seems that no one actually wants to be there. Yes, it does have Danny Trejo and Luis Guzman but they play Danny Trejo and Luis Guzman. With Gina Carano coming off Haywire, this it doesn’t feel right, but I’m happy to see she is making movies. I just hope she doesn’t turn into a DTV star because she belongs on the big screen.
In The Blood was released on Blu-Ray from Anchor Bay on June 3.
