I enjoyed Tinto Brass’ film Cheeky recently (review) so I was excited to watch another feature by him, in this case Private, which is also known as Fallo! and Do It! It’s an anthology about . . . sex. Of course it’s about sex; what else would Tinto Brass make a movie about?

I’ve only seen a handful of Tinto Brass’s films and I’m not a diehard fan, but this was not what I expected to see and it wasn’t all that great. Since it’s an anthology and Brass doesn’t much care for plots, I thought it would move a little quicker, but I was wrong. Between a lot of fake dicks and plenty of close-ups of extremely hairy private parts, this film doesn’t have much else, but there are a few scenes here and there that will make you laugh out loud because they are so freaking bizarre and silly.

Even though this isn’t a “good” Brass film it still feels like one of his because he has a way with cinematography. There are some interesting shots when it comes to the sexy time parts and that is one thing I enjoy. Brass has a good eye for the most part but I could do without the super zooms on buttholes and flaccid penises throughout the film. I’m not sure who is into a super zoom of a flaccid penis from the ’80s but this film has it.

Cult Epics did a good job with the release and transfer, but I’m just not a fan of Private. Still, I’m glad that Cult Epics is going after films like this because I get to see them. According to Brass fans this is one of his worst movies, although I’m guessing it is popular because it has a load of sexy times and doesn’t waste time getting into them. Apparently this is one of the most hardcore films that he’s made. Even though the “penii” are fake throughout the film, women are not too shy to put dem lips upon it. Sorry for that last sentence but I had to do it.

If you are a hardcore fan of Brass you will dig Private, but if you are like me and like Brass for other reasons, then you might be watching the wrong flick. This doesn’t deter me from the rest of his films or frown upon him, but I expected more and was disappointed.

Private was released by Cult Epics on Blu-Ray on July 9, 2013.
