I often wonder how people come up with an idea for a disaster film. Not only do we have volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, and everything else but also we now have other things combined with these normal disaster films. Just about every week it seems that there is either a weird shark film or a disaster film on television and it gets old. I know there’s a small market out there but where do they actually find the producers of these films? If someone handed me a script called Stonados I would laugh. I even laughed when I got an email about the release of the film, but since I’m a film geek I gave it a chance. I give anything a chance.

I don’t need to tell you what Stonados is about because I’m sure that’s a little self-explanatory. I know that this film is meant to be serious but it is so difficult to take these things seriously. If one or two popped up from time to time I could understand, but since the success of Birdemic, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, and Sharknado, we get these films constantly.

Now, we have Stonados. I honestly don’t get it. I’m glad that there are people passionate about making films and they want to do these things but why do something so silly? I know they actually explain why the Stonado only throws stones and they explode . . . oh, did I mention the stones explode? They explode. It honestly doesn’t fix anything and makes it ridiculous instead of being serious.

There is also way too much “comedy” in the film as well and it doesn’t fit well at all. We are trying to watch a disaster film and we can’t stop giggling at the silly things that are happening in the film. Another thing that really bothers me is that the city is under attack by a tornado throwing giant stones but most of the city acts like nothing is going on.

I’m just not a fan of things like this and it is hard for me to take any of it seriously. Sorry.

Stonados was released on DVD on January 28 through Arc Entertainment.
