DVD Review: All Hallows’ Eve

A year or so ago I was introduced to a short film called “Terrifier.” It was one of the most horrific shorts I’ve ever seen, about a girl haunted by a terrifying clown. No matter where she goes, he is there. “Terrifier” is the type of nightmare we have as children when we can’t do anything or run anywhere because the nightmare is always there. That was the basic reason why I liked the short so much: it didn’t have a story or anything, but was just pure terror.

All Hallows’ Eve is the feature by the team that brought us “Terrifier” and it is equally terrifying. Don’t go thinking that it will be the scariest film you will ever see, but if you haven’t seen this filmmaker’s work before, you will be in for a treat.

All Hallows’ Eve is a horror anthology where a brother and sister receive a videotape in their bag on Halloween night. The babysitter watching over the children is very apprehensive about screening the tape for them due to the fact that some sick pervert probably put something twisted on it. But after much whining (brats being brats), she puts on the tape and the nightmare starts.

I enjoyed the film, and even though I’ve seen the first and third segments already, that doesn’t take away from it at all. Even though it might seem cheap that they used their shorts, it isn’t. How many people that aren’t complete horror geeks seek out horror shorts? Answer: Not many. These guys are independent filmmakers who want to get their work out there and they need to make something cheap and sellable at first.

If you have any fear of clowns at all I highly suggest you watch this flick. Or not, because it might make you poop. Even though I’m not scared of clowns at all, Art does make me feel very uncomfortable and does the job right. So pull the covers up to your chin and watch Art destroy you and your dreams from here on out.
