Every so often we get a horror film that is completely original and stands out from the rest. Jug Face is a film unlike anything you will see this year (or even the upcoming years) in the horror genre.

The Pit Wants What It Wants.

Jug Face takes us into a small society of religious people in a backwoods community who worship and sacrifice members of their community to The Pit. The Pit takes control of one person from the community and gives them a vision and with that vision they mold a face into a jug. If that face is yours, you are next.

The Pit Wants What It Wants.

Ada is a teen trying to escape this community because she’s done something that is frowned upon and is trying to hide it. (I won’t tell you what that is, silly, because you have to watch the film to find out.) Ada is a good person but is surrounded by crazy people and does not fully understand why things are unfolding the way they are.

The Pit Wants What It Wants.

From the performances by Lauren Ashley Carter and Sean Young, to the immense suspense that is built up with each frame, everything is perfection. The director Chad Crawford Kinkle didn’t waste a single second with this flick. Jug Face isn’t just brilliant, but also gorgeous as well and the Blu-Ray shows this.

Also, if you are a fan of the film The Pit (Sammy Snyders 4 Lyfe) you will be amazed that the director of Jug Face hasn’t even seen The Pit (I asked him myself). Jug Face almost seems like a direct homage. This film feels just like when I use to prowl the VHS horror aisles as a kid and would stumble upon a weird, backwoods horror film and fall in love with it. Not only does this flick feel like a throw back (though it never claims to be one), but it also brings new stuff to the horror genre as well: a story.

The Pit Wants Want It Wants.

Please hunt this film down; it isn’t a hard one to find and it would benefit the director greatly if you actually paid for it. I’m not going to get into the moral issues around piracy at all, but it does suck and it ruins a film like this. So get out your credit card, rent or buy Jug Face from iTunes, and kick back and watch one of the most creative and interesting horror films made in years.

And remember, The Pit Wants What It Wants.

Jug Face was released on Blu-Ray October 15 from Modern Distributors.
