Images Of Peter: Finding Peter Godwin, Part Two

Popshifter: It’s a thrill for fans of yours to see you making new music. As you look into the future, are there any other projects we—your fans—can look forward to?

Peter Godwin: Sunset Rise is the first Nuevo album, but not the last! We have already sketched and drafted the next album. We both feel that we want the first record to be embraced before we fly more Nuevo songs out there. Having said that, we may surprise fans with a new track soon. . . we’ll see. Keep an eye on the Nuevo website!

Also, anyone reading this can keep in the loop by requesting my personal page on Facebook, that’s more day-to-day. Maybe mention Popshifter in the request. There’s a fan page to join, too, but for now more is happening on my personal page. That may change later.

I’ll be posting a new video for “Namaste” soon. This is actually a slide show of some amazing photographs of the Himalayan landscape and Buddhist monks and other wonderful faces and scenes from Tibet and Nepal. The photographs were taken last year by a very talented friend of mine, Nora Anghelescu.

We both found it quite mystical and extraordinary how these images harmonized with “Namaste,” which has me chanting a Himalayan melody in two vocal lines—like two monks joyously duetting!—over an Indian atmosphere—a kind of chilled-out but elated soundtrack. . . this track could have been created for those images. . . a beautiful synchronicity.

I’ll post that on my YouTube channel petergodwin13 (where you can already see the “Skin” video) and on Nuevo Music and on Facebook. So it will be easy to find!

Recently, my Nuevo partner Johnson Somerset recorded his first solo project, an instrumental album called 10 Presidents. A magical piece of work, very original, unique—the tracks stand alone but are also part of single opus that flows together. This will be out in the world soon. I co-wrote and played electric “ocean” guitar on one of the tracks. It’s called “Nixon”. . . I’ve already been back in the studio with Johnson writing two new tracks for the sequel to this album, again playing electric guitar on them, in my own weird fashion!

There is a very interesting and talented young Italian girl band called SPECTRA*paris and the singer Elena Alice Fossi has an affection for my work. We’re planning to do a new version of “One Way Night”—one of my favorite songs, and hers—from the first Metro album. The idea is for it to be a SPECTRA*paris track with Elena and I singing it as a duet. I think this could be very cool. If you check out her band, I think you’ll see why.

Also, I’m brewing up a secret project, which I can’t really divulge yet, with Max Masri’s Tanghetto. Tanghetto are a really innovative tango nuevo band, who draw inspiration equally from Argentine tango and classic electronic dance music, especially of the eighties. They’ve done wonderful versions of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy The Silence” and New Order’s “Blue Monday.” Although, what they do relates to bands like Gotan Project, they very much have their own unique style and direction.. I’ll post news of that, when I can. For now, it’s. . . hush, hush. . .

So, it should be an interesting year. A lot depends on how the world responds to Nuevo. If we get some sales that indicate we have an audience and some love for the music out there, well, we might consider doing some live shows, too. . . I have in mind something a little different from a regular rock show. . .

In a way it’s always the same mantra: “Everything Is Possible”. . . and in another way, as ever, it’s all in the lap of the gods!

Once again, many thanks to Peter Godwin for taking time to answer these questions. For more information about Peter’s current projects, visit Nuevo’s website.
