26. L.A. Food Trucks Took Off in ’09!
The most ingenious idea for a city on wheels! Everything from Mexican to Asian Fusion to Vegetarian to Sushi to mmmm. . . Buttermilk!

27. Soy Candles! You can use the wax as a glorious hydrating lotion!!!!

28. Glue guns! And I have Crafty Chica Kathy Cano-Murillo to thank for inspiring me to craft with her beautiful line of glitters and all things crafty.

29. Acme Notions, Lori Sacks charming online shop
A beautiful collection of both vintage and new notions for sewing, crafting, and the home

30. Handmade Galleries in The SF Valley where my son Ruben found a beautiful, little, elegant straw purse for me for my birthday.

31. Tom’s Gold Glitter Shoes
Thanks to my friend Bumble I discovered Tom’s Shoes and for every pair of shoes you buy, Tom’s will give a kid in need a pair of shoes!

32. Gloria Pink Stah’s Chola Make-up Tutorial on YouTube
This loca will make you look firme with hairspray for your hair, n’ shit for your “eye browns,” fool!

33. Etsy. Etsy for everything. It’s nearly replaced Ebay for me.

34. Record shopping at Amoeba in Hollywood and Freakbeat in The SF Valley will never lose its charm for me.

35. Lucas Salon in Echo Park for beauty, Akasha Center in Santa Monica for health.

36. Shopping in the Hawthorne district of Portland, OR
The most enjoyable shopping experience anywhere, ever: Powell’s Cookbook branch, Presents Of Mind. . . such fun!

37. Amtrak’s Coast Starlight line
When you want to travel, and not just “get there”! (Hey—they should hire me!) Beautiful scenery, an updated parlour car for sleeping car passengers, wine-tasting, and movies in an actual movie theater car with movie seats!

38. Palm Springs Ace Hotel
Just perfectly pleasing in every way with record players and LPs in each room.

39. Altadena, CA and the San Gabriel Valley
The “new” perfect place to live in So Cal. (Shhhhhhh)

40. Krakow, Poland
My fave new city!

41. Dick Van Patten’s Bulldog Float at The Rose Bowl Parade with Tillman The Skateboarding (and snowboarding) Bulldog and friends!

42. Scott Walker Tribute Show at Bordello, February 2009
Even though I was involved with this (along with my daughter Tiffany) to launch the DVD for Stephen Kijak’s marvelous film on Scott, it was such a wonderful event hosted by the Marquis Michael Des Barres with performers Ann Magnuson, John Doe, Evie Sands, David J, Jason Falkner, and more.

43. The 10th Annual Dia de Los Muertos Celebration at Hollywood Forever Cemetery
There is no more magical event in L.A. I’m entering an altar of my own this year to get involved in the party from the ground up!

44. Fry Bread and Cowboy Coffee at the Mescalero Apache Rez, and the unforgettable experience of the Apache Girl’s Sunrise Ceremony (Puberty Rite).

45. The Cinefamily at The Silent Movie Theater and Cinespia at Hollywood Forever Cemetery
These remain the most exhilarating movie-going experiences in Los Angeles, along with the continued bliss of the programming at the New Beverly, American Cinematheque, Nuart, and LACMA (thankfully hanging on due to public outcry). There is a venue for every kind of film lover in LA now!

46. Trailers From Hell, online screenings of vintage trailers with commentary by filmmaker fans of the flicks. Brainchild From Hell of Joe Dante and Elizabeth Stanley.

47. First runs at The Arclight, Hollywood. And it really IS the best popcorn.

48. Los Angeles Conservancy’s Last Remaining Seats screenings!

49. Yukon Solitaire, a card meditation! Thanks Mom for teaching it to me!

50. Journaling, by hand
A young girl I knew passed away in ’09 and she had journaled daily. I took it up as a tribute to her and it’s enriched my life enormously. Thank you, Lena.
