Warped Tour in Kansas City: I’m Too Old For This Shit
Published on September 29th, 2009 in: Concert Reviews, Current Faves, Interviews, Issues, Music, Reviews |On the whole, my day at the 15th Anniversary of The Vans Warped Tour, a summer punker right of passage, was a good one. Yeah, the asphalt melted under my feet, beverages were expensive, and the Mohawks were few and far between, but that’s beside the point.
I guess the point here is that I am part of something bigger than myself. Yes, the music was a bit less punk then when I was last there in 1998, but that’s OK. Everything happens in cycles and I can relish the fact that some kids may have heard Bad Religion or Bouncing Souls for the first time, went to their respective merch tents, bought some CDs, and gone home to begin a punk rock education that may or may not change their lives. Maybe in a few years those kids will be playing Warped as representatives of a “classic punk revival.”
Will I come back to Warped Tour next year? It’s more than likely. I will be there with pen and paper in hand, more grey hairs on my head, and standing just a bit farther away from the mosh pit. You never know, maybe Fugazi, The Descendents, and Husker Du will reunite for next year’s tour. Wait, you do know who these bands are, don’t you? Now, I’m definitely not too old for THAT shit.
Shooter Jennings will be at Buster’s in Lexington, KY on October 1. Check out the MySpace pages for The Architects and Shooter Jennings for more tour dates and information on each band.
