Why Uncool Is Cool: An Interview with Paul Feig
Published on March 30th, 2008 in: Books, Interviews, Issues, Movies, TV |Paul Feig: Well, not really, but you know, it’s almost like they want to punish you for liking their stuff?
Popshifter: (laughs)
Paul Feig: If something is sincerely coming out of you, then that’s great, but it might take me a minute to get used to the fact that it’s different. I don’t know; I don’t even know why I feel I have to make excuses, but I really liked this book. I was excited to write a book for kids that’s not dumb. It’s written in first person by the twelve-year-old kid and it’s funny and clearly, it’s my voice
. . . but it’s got this fantasy, Sci Fi element to it that some people might think is dumb, but I don’t know. . . I’m really proud of it and I’m having fun doing them. I’m writing the second one now.
Popshifter: So when is the first one coming out?
Paul Feig: September.
Popshifter: Oh great! And in terms of the show [Kath and Kim], since now you’ll be working on it because the Writers’ Strike is over, when can we expect to see that?
Paul Feig: From what I’ve heard, they want to premiere it coming out of the Olympics so I believe that the date at the moment is August 25. We’re still finishing up the casting and we just cast Chris Elliott.
Popshifter: Oh great!
Paul Feig: Yeah, it’s a great part for him because it’s something different from what he’s done before and it uses all his natural skills. You know, it’s like once again, “Let me see you being honest,” because he’s known for playing all these snarky characters.
Popshifter: Oh yeah.
Paul Feig: But he’s so funny and it’s the sweetest role.
Popshifter: Ah, that sounds so great.
Paul Feig: Yeah, I’m really excited.
Popshifter: Well, thanks a lot! This has been really enjoyable. It was nice to meet you over the phone.
Paul Feig: Aw, well thanks! And anything else you need just let me know. It was fun talking to you and I love the website.
Popshifter: Thanks, thanks a lot. Have a great day!
Paul Feig: Thanks, you too. Bye!
