It’s the end of the year and as we look back through pop culture history, this is a big day! Lots of things happened, and it’s hard to pick just one. Therefore, I’m not going to. Why do hard things? Ugh. So here’s a quick list of interesting things that happened on December 31st!

1963–Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead jammed together for the first time. They played one song which lasted 22 days, setting the tone for many outdoor festivals to come.

1966–“I’m a Believer” by the Monkees hits number one and stays on top of the charts for almost two months. If your children think that song was originally performed by Shrek, please fix that.

1970–Paul McCartney files a lawsuit to dissolve the Beatles. The judge believes that to be a bit harsh, and suggests the band simply break up instead.

1974–The duo of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks join Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac then spends three years joining with each other, causing jealousy, drug abuse and the Rumours album.

1984–Def Leppard’s drummer, Rick Allen, loses his arm as a result of a terrifying auto accident. That’s not funny. No joke here. I’m not a monster.

1995–The final Calvin & Hobbes comic strip is published, leaving the world an infinitely darker place.

A year ends, another one begins, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Mark well the time, brothers and sisters.
