Mardi Rustam directed Evil Town, a film that I’ve loved since I was little. Until a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t know this director did anything else. Then Gorgon Video decided to lay down the law with their new release Evils Of The Night.

I knew something in my life wasn’t right. I knew I was missing some weird, key component to happiness. I now know that Evils Of The Night is the one thing that completes me.

Yeah, that’s a crock of bologna, but Evils Of The Night is such a good time. This film is silly, strange, and just laugh out loud hilarious. Whenever you mix aliens, teens, and an R-rating you are bound to get a hypersexual plot or maybe some aliens doing it with the humans. There are some really odd films out there with these kinds of plot devices and it never gets old. From Horror Planet (a.k.a. Inseminoid) to the batshit insane Breeders, you are guaranteed a weirdly erotic good time.

Evils Of The Night is like those movies. A bunch of horny teens are rounded up and kidnapped by two greased up mechanics (played by Aldo Ray and Neville Brand. . . yeah, I know) and taken to a nearby hospital. The hospital is, of course, run by aliens and the aliens need teenage blood in order to survive.

Did you head just explode Scanners-style? Mine did several times during this film.

It is batshit as it sounds and quite honestly, it is hard to believe this whole thing was coordinated and actually made, but I’m guessing that was what the ‘80s were for. To be honest, I loved this film. It was highly entertaining and I can’t wait to revisit it with a group of friends just to see their expressions and hear their giggles.

I think it would be safe to say that Mardi Rustam loved batshit ideas and movies because even his career as a producer is insane and hard to believe. I can’t fault the guy; he made some awesome titles. Sure, they are not the revolution of cinema of anything, but to me the ‘80s were a fun time, a decade where you could make any film that you wanted to and no one would judge you.

Gorgon Video is coming back slowly but surely and this is another one of their releases that is very solid. Even though the film is on DVD it looks and sounds the best it could with a decent transfer as well. I’m looking forward to more Gorgon releases because they did a great job on their release of Death Spa this year (review). I hope we can expect more from them in 2015.

Evils Of The Night was released by Gorgon Video on October 14.
