Oslo, Norway’s Timeworn has barreled out of the gates with a blockbuster album called Luminescent Wake. It combines elements of thrash metal and ’90s hardcore, in a wholly exciting way. I keep hearing comparisons to Converge, and I guess I hear that, too, but I’d compare them more to a meatier sounding Bloodlet.

Timeworn are very much their own band though, pulling out ahead of the pack with tight, rhythmically exciting metal. The songs whip and slash and stomp across desolate landscapes, shifting realities, time, and the cosmos. And the cover art is sweet!

I’ve been working on my next book while listening to Luminescent Wake and the energy it brings has been very good for the creative process. I don’t know how helpful that’ll be for anyone just trying to find some new music, but I wanted to put it out there. Whether I’m listening to it on my headphones at work or in the car or just letting it rip in the background at home, Luminescent Wake always pulls my attention.

Honestly, it’s safe to say that Luminescent Wake will make my year-end best of list along with Mortal’s Cursed To See The Future (review). You can order the album here. And you really should, fiends!

Luminescent Wake was released on November 14 from Disiplin Media.
