On October 1, New York prog-rockers Coheed and Cambria treated their fans in Toronto to a night they won’t soon forget. Eleven years after its initial release, the album In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 breathes fresh air with the band playing it in its entirety on a 25-date North American tour. Bringing along their friends Thank You Scientist, Coheed and Cambria tore the roof off of the Kool Haus and celebrated not only the album that brought them success, but also their fans for their endless support.

Thank You Scientist opened the night and were on fire from the get-go. This up and coming band was able to get the crowd on their side and finished their set showing they have what it takes to be a headlining band. Their style is indescribable, so if you’re a fan of fresh and unique music, check them out. Leaving the audience pumped for Coheed and Cambria while converting new fans for themselves, Thank You Scientist was the perfect opener.

With little to no talking between songs, Coheed and Cambria got straight to the music. In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 was meant to be listened to from start to finish, and the lack of chatter from the band was accepted by all in attendance. The crowd was the furthest from shy and their participation was deafening. Coheed and Cambria has always been a band with a large underground following, so it came as no surprise when fans at times overpowered lead vocalist Claudio Sanchez. Loud and physical, this show was definitely not one to bring your Grandma to.

One of the biggest highlights of the night came from the rarely played songs. “Al the Killer,” “Backend of Forever,” and fan favorite “2113” are a few tracks that rarely see the light of day—which is understandable seeing as the band now has seven albums under their belt. Not only were they able to do the songs justice, they greatly exceeded the expectations of fans and brought the already powerful album to life.

Following the play through of their acclaimed album, Coheed and Cambria returned twice for encores. First, they performed three songs—”Neverender,” “Goodnight Fair Lady,” and “Number City”—before returning a second time for two more fan favorites, “Ten Speed (Of God’s Blood and Burial)” and their usual closer “Welcome Home.” Playing over 90 minutes, Coheed and Cambria were able to give their fans their money’s worth (and then some!).

For many, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 is a symbol of adolescence and naivety; the majority of fans were teenagers when the album came out. By the way the band was received that night, it’s safe to say that it has stood the test of time. Coheed and Cambria continually treat their fans to memorable nights and prove that you don’t need mainstream success to make an impact in people’s lives.
