Most of us still love our old action stars. For me, Jeff Speakman, Brandon Lee, and Arnold Schwarzenegger are my favorites and have been for many years. Throughout the course of the late ’90s and today, most of these guys passed their peak and are doing a lot of DTV stuff. Yes, they do have a film in theaters here or there but not as solid as the films they did in the ’80s. With Sly doing The Expendables franchise, it has given these guys a chance to strike gold again on the big screen, and in a corny and cheesy way they succeed.

Now, with these older action stars on the rise we have a new breed of who are circulating around. It is funny (and sad) to see these guys go through the exact same thing as the older action stars. One of these guys is Scott Adkins. He has risen quickly, but he is picking roles like Legendary that keep him from staying afloat.

Scott Adkins hit it “big” (with us film nerds) with Undisputed 2 (yeah I know, but it is actually quite good). Ever since he has been in bigger blockbusters in theaters in small roles and has also done well in the DTV circuit. Basically, you can’t miss the guy because he is literally everywhere . . . if you watch action flicks, at least.

Recently Scott Adkins and Dolph Lundgren paired up in a “creature feature” type flick called Legendary! Awesome right? Nope.

I like goofy cinema and I don’t mind when these types of films come out because I enjoy them on a certain level. However, this film serves no purpose but a paycheck to these guys. I don’t like to shit on movies because I feel everyone should watch a film on their own and on their own terms. No one should deter you from watching anything. You may ask yourself why I’m actually spending time writing these things if I don’t want you to listen to me. My answer is simple: publicity for the film. I just want you to know that there is a film with Dolph and Scott featuring a giant lizard attacking them and then you can make up your own mind.

But seriously, they fight a giant lizard. I don’t care what they call it but it is a giant fucking lizard. I live in Florida and we have smaller versions of what they fight in this film and it is a lizard. I will say this film is enjoyable on what people would consider a “bad” level but I’m not one to say the phrase “so bad it’s good” because that doesn’t make all that much sense to me. Either you like a film or you don’t. I do enjoy cornball flicks that are ridiculous but I legitimately like those films. I don’t consider them bad because I actually like them.

Wow, I just realized I haven’t said shit about Legendary.

I don’t like trashing films or trying to talk people out of seeing them and I guess that’s why I go off on tangents like this. I will say this film is worth a watch on a rainy day when it hits Netflix. I will recommend you don’t purchase the film because I don’t think you would be too happy.

Well, thanks for listening to me ramble and hardly talk about this film. Bye!

Legendary was released on DVD by Lionsgate on July 29.
