How do people normally feel about made-for-TV horror? I’m not speaking about direct-to-video flicks, I’m talking about the ones that go straight to television and then are put on DVD and buried almost instantly. These movies are easily dismissed and frowned upon. I give them a chance when I can because every once in a while you find a gem. Sorority Horror House is one of those films.

If Sorority Horror House was made in the ’80s it would be something that we cherish and speak about to this day. This flick has a mixture of just about every ’80s horror film that I can remember and pays a lot of respect to those films: Night Of The Creeps, Girls Nite Out, Sorority House Massacre 2, House On Sorority Row, and many others. You wouldn’t expect it at first, but the film does have a throwback feel once it gets going. I’m not saying this film is amazing but I think it was probably treated unfairly because of the poor CGI and subpar acting. That doesn’t cancel the fact that it is actually worth your time. Once the story gets going and the kills start happening, it gets very entertaining. It’s fun to try to guess to whom the film is paying homage.

It kills me because I can almost guarantee if this movie came out 30 years ago, it would have blown up and been a big hit . . . if you took out the poor CGI. If you are in the mood for a horror throwback and have a little time on a rainy afternoon I suggest popping in Sorority Horror House and enjoying it.

Sorority Horror House was released on DVD on March 11 through MTI Home Video.
