Dublin on A Dime

Sickness aside, I had more to explore in my short trip, and I was determined to do so. I definitely wanted to get some souvenirs (no matter how stupid they were). There were gift shops all over the city center called Carroll’s Irish Gifts. This place had the lamest crap, but for Dublin standards, it was as cheap as it was going to get! I wanted to get some silly souvenirs, and that’s exactly what Carroll’s had. You can’t miss them; they’re pretty much everywhere. So if you ever go to Dublin, and someone asks you to get a little “something” for them, these silly shops make it easy. I even went to some flea markets that were more expensive (not a bad idea to check out, as you never know what you’ll find).

One more freebie: I mentioned Molly Malone in the intro to this article and you do get to see that statue in central Dublin on Grafton Street. In fact, you can walk right up to it! This statue is known informally as “The Tart With The Cart,” “The Dish With The Fish,” “The Trollop With The Scallops,” “The Dolly With the Trolley,” and “The Flirt in the Skirt.” Look her name up on the Web, and get some info on her origins.

In fact, if there’s one thing I can’t stress more about traveling to Dublin. . . do your research! You can get a lot out of a little if you do!
